We are incredibly excited to announce the 2023 SYANA Gurmat Retreat is happening on Memorial Day (May 26 to May 29th) weekend.

This annual tradition brings together Sangat between the ages of 18-35 for a weekend of Gurmat learning, inspiration, and fun.

This year’s Theme will be Sikh Rehit Maryada.

We’re curating a weekend where we explore the various facets of personal & Panthic living as outlined by the Sikh Rehit Maryada.

There will be a healthy dose of discussion and reflection on how the practice and principles of Sikhi are understood, maintained and strengthened. Topics like Ardas, Panthic responsibility & perspectives, various Sanskaars, the history of the Sikh Rehit Maryada, and more will be covered.

Retreat will be held from May 26 – 29, 2023. 

We are requesting Sangat to arrive by 6:00 PM on the Friday.  We have to leave the campsite by 9:30 AM on Monday.

Anyone ages 18 to 35.  Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis. 

Retreat is being held at YMCA Camp Storer in Jackson, MI.

Registration fees are $190 USD and cover registration, lodging, activities and food.

SYANA attempts to make programming available to as many people as possible, and the fees are set at below cost.

The YMCA Camp Storer offers a variety of activities and amenities at the campsite. Mornings and evenings are often cooler and afternoons can warm up significantly. The following is a list of suggested items for Retreat:

 

  • Clothes for the weekend
  • Jacket/sweater/shawl
  • Toiletries
  • Bath Towel
  • Water Bottle
  • Comfortable pair of shoes for walking
  • Laundry bag
  • Notebook & writing utensil
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Head covering (chuni, shawl, patka, dastaar, etc)
  • Bedding: twin bed sheets, pillow & blanket*

*If you are flying in, we will provide a blanket and pillow for you. Please bring all other items.

Please out this form no later than Monday, May 15th. Please book all flights out of Detroit, MI (DTW)  Flights should be scheduled to arrive in the morning/early afternoon of Friday, May 26th  and depart in morning/early afternoon of Monday, May 29th*.

*If flights are cheaper, you are welcome to book to arrive Thursday and leave Tuesday.  We’ll make arrangements for your stay those days.

The revelation of the Khalsa to the masses was a pivotal point in world history. This workshop aims to discuss the nature and sovereignty of the Khalsa Panth, to bring a greater understanding of how this has impacted our personal lives and connections, and to reflect on unique perspectives from those who have experienced the gift of Khandey Kee Pahul.
